Connie Leeper is a native North Carolinian who grew up in the former textile mill village of Kannapolis. Those experiences growing up in a paternalistic, anti-union company town helped to shape her life committed to social justice issues.
As an activist, community organizer and justice champion for the past 45 years, Connie has first-hand experience and knowledge of how certain people and places have been discounted in value and relevance to make change happen.
She joined the climate justice movement recognizing it will take an inter-generational, multi-racial effort and cultural shifts to build a broader movement rooted in justice for communities on the frontlines who are being first and worst impacted by devastating climate impacts. Connie is Co-director of NC Climate Justice Collective and Senior Climate Justice Director at NC WARN. She is on the board of Southeast Climate & Energy Network.
