Donna F. Edwards served five terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, becoming the first African American woman to represent Maryland. Congresswoman Edwards was born in Yanceyville, North Carolina, grew up in a military family, and lived in every region of the country and internationally. She earned her JD from the University of New Hampshire School of Law and her BA from Wake Forest University. In Congress, Edwards served on numerous committees and subcommittees She was the lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on Space, the Committee on Standards and Official Conduct, and the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission. Congresswoman Edwards was co-chair of the House Democrats’ Steering and Policy Committee and co-chair of the bi-partisan Women’s Caucus. Edwards provides political commentary in print, electronic and cable media and serves as the Senior Advisor to the Bauman Foundation. Edwards is a contributing columnist for The Washington Post and NBC/MSNBC political contributor
