Iva E. Carruthers Bio

Iva E. Carruthers, PhD is an educator, community development consultant and human rights advocate. She is the General Secretary and a founding trustee of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference, an interdenominational organization within the African American faith tradition focused on justice and equity issues. She has traveled throughout the United States, the Caribbean, South America, Africa, and Asia. Dr. Carruthers is Professor Emerita and former Chairperson of the Sociology Department at Northeastern Illinois University. She is published in the fields of sociology, instructional technology, and theology. She is the Founding President of Nexus Unlimited. Dr. Carruthers was appointed to the White House Advisory Council on the internet, “National Information Infrastructure”, mega project, and a recipient of a ComputerWorld Smithsonian Award. She is a frequent guest speaker before various national and international forums, including the U.N. Civil Society Forums. She has served as a board member, consultant, and delegate to many organizations.
