Bernardine (Dine) Watson is a native Philadelphian now living in Washington, DC. Dine has been fortunate enough to work as a writer in two sectors. As a social policy researcher and writer, she served as executive vice president of the nonprofit, youth policy think tank, Public Private Ventures, and operated independent research and writing consultancy. She has written on key social issues for major foundations, nonprofit organizations, and The Washington Post. Dine also chaired the board of Equal Measure, a research and social change organization. Upon leaving the policy world, Dine applied her skills in the creative writing field, and currently writes both poetry and creative nonfiction. She is a 2015 class member of the DC Commission on Arts and Humanities Poet in Progress Program and was selected to participate in the 2017 and 2018 classes of the Hurston Wright Foundation’s Summer Poetry workshop. Her poetry has been published in numerous national and DC area journals. In 2024, two of her poems were nominated for the Pushcart Prize. Her book, "Transplant: A Memoir" won the Washington Writers' Publishing House 2023 nonfiction prize. She has served on the boards of the Painted Bride Art Center, Scribe Video Center, DC Rape Crisis Center, and Day Eight. Dine is currently a member of the Washington Writers’ Publishing House board of directors.
